St. Petersburg Chain

Before you start please check out the " What you"ll need and General info" page to make sure you have what you need. This stitch requires you to thread some beads more than once so please take that into consideration when choosing your beads and materials. This is the finished piece of this blog

For instructions on how to complete this stitch please click below

I am using the ring side of 2 toggle clasps for jump rings, plus 2 open jump rings & a lobster claw clasp.

Upholstery thread.

Center beads are 4 mm square metal.
Top beads are 6 mm pink/orange glass.
Bottom beads are 8 mm Unakite.

Start with 4 of your center beads. Once again I like to sow my jump rings in if possible. I think that's why I like the larger toggle clasp rings sometimes, it doesn't really matter what order you pick them up in.

Thread through your toggle clasp and your 1st two beads and pull tight.

You will have a square with the thread coming up.

Pick up a top bead and sow back down through two beads.

When you pull this through, the one thing you have to watch is what side of the top bead your thread is on. Just make sure you keep the thread on the same side of each top bead. This will be the back side.

Pick up one of your bottom beads and thread up through the next two beads. Pull tight.

Pick up 4 center beads.

Thread though 1st two beads and pull tight.

You'll have another square.

You'll need to slide down this square as far as you can to your previous square. Be careful when doing this that you do not break your thread.

Pick up a top bead and thread down through your first two beads of your square PLUS the top bead from your previous one. That is 3 beads you will thread down through. Pull tight. This connects the squares. Once again make sure your thread is on the correct side of the top bead.

Pick up a bottom bead and thread up through next two beads. Pull tight.

That's it !! Just continue making squares and connecting them til your desired length. Don't forget to sew in your toggle / jump ring into your last square. This stitch will give you a natural curve as long as your top beads are not to large.

You can also add beads in between your bottom beads for a more dangled look

Just thread the beads straight through the bottom beads.

I hope this was helpful in helping you create your own beautiful creations. Please leave any comments you would like to share, it's the best way for me to know if my tips are useful.
